Meta Ads for Mechanics: A No-BS Guide to Getting More Enquiries

By Liam31 July 20256 min read

If you've ever boosted a post on Facebook and wondered why you got likes but no enquiries, this guide is for you.

Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) are one of the cheapest ways to generate leads for automotive businesses on the Gold Coast. But most workshops waste money on them because they're set up wrong from the start.

Here's how to do it properly.

    Stop Boosting Posts

Boosting a post is not running ads. It's giving Meta your money to show your post to people who already like your page. That's not lead generation — that's vanity.

If you want enquiries, you need to use Meta Ads Manager and run a lead generation campaign with a proper form and a clear offer.

The Offer Matters More Than the Ad

Nobody clicks on an ad that says 'Quality mechanical repairs, call us.' That's not an offer. That's a statement.

An offer is: 'Free safety inspection with your next service. Book online in 60 seconds.' That gives people a reason to act now.

Your offer should be specific, valuable, and easy to say yes to. If you can't explain your offer in one sentence, it's too complicated.

    Targeting: Keep It Simple

You don't need to overthink targeting. For a local automotive business, here's what works:

    - Location: 10–20km radius around your workshop

    • +Age: 25–65
    • +Interests: car maintenance, automotive services, local area
    • +Exclude: people who already follow your page (you want new leads, not existing customers)

That's enough to start. You can refine later based on what the data tells you.

    Creative: Show Real Work

Stock photos don't work. People want to see your workshop, your team, and the work you actually do.

Short videos of a service being done, before-and-after shots of a repair, or a quick walkthrough of your shop — these outperform polished corporate ads every time.

If you can't film it yourself, get someone to help. But don't use generic stock images. Customers can tell, and it kills trust.

The Form: Make It Stupidly Easy

Your lead form should ask for the bare minimum: name, phone number, and what they need. That's it.

Every extra field you add reduces the number of leads you get. People are lazy. If the form takes more than 30 seconds to fill out, they'll bounce.

    Follow-Up: Where Most Workshops Fail

Here's the part nobody talks about. Running the ad is easy. Following up with the leads is where 90% of workshops fall apart.

A lead comes in. It sits in your email inbox. You're busy. Two hours pass. The lead has already called someone else.

You need an automated system that:

    - Sends an instant SMS to the lead acknowledging their enquiry

    • +Logs the lead in a CRM so it doesn't get lost
    • +Sends you a notification on your phone immediately
    • +Follows up automatically if you haven't called them within a set timeframe

Without this, you're paying for leads and then letting them go cold. That's worse than not running ads at all.

    What to Budget

For a local automotive workshop on the Gold Coast, a realistic starting budget is $300–$500 per month on ad spend. That's enough to generate a consistent flow of leads if your offer and follow-up are dialed in.

Don't start with $50 a week and expect miracles. Give the algorithm enough data to work with, and give it at least 2–3 weeks before you judge the results.

    The Bottom Line

Meta Ads work for automotive businesses. But only if you have a real offer, simple targeting, genuine creative, and — most importantly — a follow-up system that doesn't let leads go cold.
